Parent Information Network (PIN) |
|

Contact Information:
Program Hours:
Monday to Friday - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Program Description:
The Parent Information Network (PIN) is a parent information
support and advocacy program designed by parents and professionals
to help families that are challenged by children’s mental health,
emotional, or behavioral needs. The goal of PIN is to empower
families and assist them in navigating and accessing the supports
and services necessary to maintain their child within the local
community.
PIN helps parents/caregivers stay connected with other parents and
helps to reduce the stress and isolation many feel as they cope
with a child with challenging mental health needs. The program is
staffed by Parent Coordinators, parents who are successfully
raising children with similar needs, who have been trained to
support other parents experiencing similar challenges. Program
goals include helping parents gain a sense of competency in
parenting their child, empowering parents to negotiate state
systems and advocate for supports and services, and educating
parents and professionals about the needs of children with mental
health challenges. PIN serves approximately 400 families each
year.
Services include:
Parent Support Groups enable
parents to come together to support each other, to share ideas
and information, and to learn from professionals.
One-to-one support from trained
Parent Coordinator provides telephone contact, attendance at
meetings, and application assistance based upon individual
family needs.
Parent/Community Education
heightens awareness about the struggles many families face when
raising a child with mental health challenges.
Family Activities and Events
provide opportunities for parents to socialize in a positive and
affirming environment.
Resource Center provides
information on services available in the community and includes
books, videos, and manuals on youth mental health issues.
Quarterly Newsletter provides
updates on PIN activities, a calendar of PIN events, information
on youth mental health issues, and articles and poems written by
PIN parents, children, Parent Coordinators, and mental health
professionals.
Individual and Community Advocacy
helps families access needed services and supports.
