Brain Injury Community Center

A Journey
towards recovery

A traumatic brain injury can be a life altering experience. BAMSI’s Brain Injury Community Center allows people who have experienced a traumatic brain injury to come together, share their experiences, and support each other as they rebuild their lives.

BAMSI’s Brain Injury Community Center empowers individuals with acquired traumatic brain injuries to reach their fullest potential independence, self-worth, and dignity. Members don’t just participate in activities, they help run them.

Members are in charge of cooking shared meals, maintaining the space, organizing social and recreational activities, and deciding what supports will be most meaningful to their recovery and development. Supports are designed to build community, assist with employment counseling, develop skills, and offer educational services.

“New Start is a great place where you can improve your skills
New Start is a place where you can be yourself
This is a great place to come to and learn new things”

Eligibility for New Start includes documentation of an Acquired Brain Injury as well as a referral from the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC). For those not referred by MRC, BAMSI will work to ensure there is verification of a brain injury and that the referral meets the general criteria of the New Start Brain Injury Community Center and MRC.
