Long-time BAMSI CEO Honored at Hospital’s Annual Dinner

Brockton, MA – Anthony ‘Tony’ Simonelli, Jr. was honored December 5, 2019, at Signature Healthcare’s annual gala where he received the President’s Medal for Outstanding Community Service, an award given since 2000. He joins a roster of distinguished community leaders who have made significant contributions since 2000.

As President and CEO of BAMSI, Simonelli has been the principal architect of the agency’s operation and statewide expansion, growing BAMSI’s budget from $2 million in 1984 to nearly $100 million today. For over 40 years Tony has been responsible for overseeing BAMSI’s fiscal, contractual, business, and legal operations, and acting as chief liaison to the board of directors. He is scheduled to retire from BAMSI in the spring of 2020.

“Tony has been a true champion to countless children, youth and families in our community for many years. His unwavering commitment and contributions to the community are honored, appreciated and recognized,” stated Kim Holon, President & CEO of Signature Healthcare.

More than 300 guests enjoyed the “A Night with Tony,” theme at Lombardo’s Randolph, celebrating Simonelli’s love of the theatre, complete with a red carpet, classic Broadway music, posters and playbills. Two students from the Capachione School of Performing Arts in East Bridgewater, Hannah Daley and Maggie Darcy, delighted audiences with renditions from famous Broadway musicals.

Tony previously served on the statewide advisory board for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, as a board member for the social work program at Bridgewater State University, and as a member of the board of trustees at Massasoit Community College. He is also a former health care consultant to long-term care facilities. A graduate of Boston University with a concentration in occupational therapy, Simonelli received an executive certificate in management and leadership and an ACE in management and leadership at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

David Offutt, newly appointed Chair of the Board of Directors for BAMSI, said, “It’s been an honor to serve with Tony on both the Massasoit and BAMSI boards. His commitment to the agency and the 60,000 plus people we serve each year is unparalleled. I’ve learned so much from him.”

Event proceeds will benefit The John, Steven and Caryll Greene Cancer Center at Signature Healthcare to provide the highest quality patient care in affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
