FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BAMSI Welcomes Chief Medical Officer

Brockton, MA [September 23, 2022] –BAMSI, a human service agency serving southeastern MA, welcomes Dr. Peter Kassis as its first Chief Medical Officer. This critical hire comes as part of BAMSI’s move to provide an integrated system of care for the communities it serves—linking addiction, behavioral, and physical healthcare services.

“BAMSI already works with a diverse cross-section of medically complex and vulnerable people through our residential and behavioral health programs. Bringing a Chief Medical Officer on board was the logical next step in providing a more integrated, whole person approach to health” explains BAMSI CEO, Peter Evers.

Dr. Kassis comes to BAMSI as a leader in the fields of Addiction Treatment and Behavioral Health, most recently having served as Executive Medical Director of Phoenix House of New England, a nonprofit health care organization focusing on treatment for people with substance use disorders and behavioral health conditions. Kassis has also served as the Medical Director of Medical Services at the Brattleboro Retreat in Brattleboro Vermont, Assistant Chief Medical Officer for Health Care Resource Centers in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine and Medical Director of Quality with CleanSlate Addiction Treatment Centers. Dr. Kassis also served for many years as a community health care provider in underserved communities of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Dr. Kassis completed his medical training at New York Medical College and the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. He completed his post-graduate training at the Brown Medical School Family Medicine Residency in Providence RI. Dr. Kassis is working toward his MBA at the UMASS Isenberg School of Management. As a physician leader, board-certified in both Addiction Medicine and Family Medicine, Dr. Kassis brings a wealth of experience in working with people with chronic disease and leading cross-functional teams in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is a passionate advocate for underserved populations and people struggling with mental illness and addiction.

Motivated by the design and implementation of strategies which transform health delivery systems, Dr. Kassis is looking forward to assisting BAMSI in evolving its care model to better serve the community.
