Memorial Scholarship Fund Established in Honor of Late BAMSI Employee, Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu

BROCKTON, MA (May 17, 2024) – BAMSI is pleased to announce the newly established Maggie Mbitu Scholarship Fund, which provides BAMSI employees with financial assistance for costs related to their educational pursuits in the field of nursing.

This fund was established in memory of Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu, a long-time BAMSI employee, nurse, and daughter to Rose Mbitu, another BAMSI employee. Tragically, Maggie was a fatal victim of domestic violence in October 2023.

Maggie’s career with BAMSI is a testament to the value of professional development and educational advancement, as she progressed through numerous positions at the agency after her first role as a Residential Counselor.

“Maggie was a truly kind and selfless individual who is deeply missed by both her colleagues and those she cared for,” said Peter Evers, BAMSI CEO.

“She worked hard to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse and helping others. This fund is just one way to honor her memory and support others with similar aspirations.”

The fund will support BAMSI employees, including students pursuing a graduate degree in nursing, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students, and direct care professionals who are pursuing nursing-related qualifications.

Scholarship funds will be awarded to cover the cost of tuition and related expenses, including books, fees, and room/board (excluding any travel costs) for a course of study leading to a certificate or to achieve a skill level that is related to enhancing the nursing services provided by BAMSI.

BAMSI is looking to award their first scholarship in 2024 with the goal of supporting a minimum of five employees each year. To make a contribution to this scholarship fund, please visit bamsi.info/BAMSI_donate.
